All application equipment applying professional plant protection products must be tested.
This includes all vehicle mounted sprayers working in the amenity sector. This is particularly important with much of the equipment working in spaces regularly used by the public. Amenity covers a vast range of sites from golf courses, playing fields and sports grounds, railways, footpaths and highways to name a few.
Knapsack, handheld and pedestrian sprayers do not have to be tested but need to be inspected on a regular basis by a competent person. Any faults found need to be rectified and a record should be kept of the inspection. A checklist for knapsack sprayers is available HERE. Pedestrian sprayers are defined as having a maximum of 2 wheels or those operated with a manually controlled pump.
the Amenity Forum is the voluntary Initiative of the amenity sector, encouraging best practice, coordinating training and promoting safe and sustainable use of plant protection products covering the wide range of activities in the sector.
